Take our Fun Quiz-what is “your” perfect Romantic Destination?
Print out
two sets of the Quiz, and without discussing with each other, circle or write in your answers to each. Once finished, go to a nice, quiet, relaxing place and trade papers-no talking yet, just read.
Once you are finished reviewing your future spouse’s wish list, go over each question one-by-one and check off the answers that are the same. This will be your starting point. Make a list of all the things that matched. Once you have done that, go back to each question, and on-by-one, talk about the answers that were different. Each of you talk about your own answer, without interruption, and explain why you answered what you did. Once you have each had a chance to talk about your own answer, ask each other this question: What if anything, did you like most about the other person’s suggestion? Write down that answer.
Repeat the process for each of the questions, finding all the things that were likeable on each other’s list. Now, calmly, do the same process for the questions that did not appeal to you and why. This is not a contest, it is an exercise in finding common ground, and learning that the first key to a successful marriage is to compromise so that each partner has a fair share in decision making.
Okay, you are ready to start? Here are some key questions to answer as honestly as you can.
