Did you Know?

Did you know?

Many of the Wedding Traditions were created out of superstitions, old wives tales, and even folklore. It’s no wonder today’s brides are much more likely to make changes to some of what have been considered to be “the Rules”.

Traditions, of course change from culture to culture, but there always does seem to be a theme that unites them in some way shape or form.

For ladies of the past, leap year brought about a rare, yet acceptable tradition. February 29, became know as Sadie Hawkins, not only could a young lady ask a gentleman out, or to dance, but it was also acceptable that she could indeed propose marriage.

Engagement parties/Wedding Showers

Engagement parties were held as a chance for either side to meet and get to know both family and friends from either of the couple’s side. This was an opportunity for them to evaluate either going forward, or not, with their plans. There’s an old expression that says “If you want to know how your bride will be in her later years, look at the mother”. It is possible that at least that part of the tradition does still stand true today.

And how did Wedding Showers come about? Long ago brides were expected to have a sizable dowry of money, property, etc. If her family was not in agreement with her choice of future husband no dowry was offered, her friends would then get together and bring her gifts that she could then use on her own for a dowry, and go forward with her “choice” of a future mate.

Bachelor or Bachelorette parties

One of our favorite events in today’s world is the Bachelor or Bachelorette parties. Thought to be the young gentleman’s final days of freedom, these were only held for the men and served as a male bonding experience as well. The Brides of today have already broken that barrier and often have Bachelorette parties themselves. We have taken that a step further and added Jack and Jill Getaways for everyone. A chance to have a mini getaway with close friends some in tropical locations with Spa treatments, golf and the like for each group, while others may opt for the fun nightlife of casinos of Las Vegas, Tahoe or the Caribbean Islands.

This travel site offers a variety of choices, from traditional to ultra modern to customize the couple’s travel needs in ways they may not have even considered.

Come back to our site often and see other interesting traditions, dos and don’ts and much more. You may be surprised at what you find out!
